UK Father Wins £4 Million Yorkshire Mansion and £250,000 Cash in Omaze Draw

Malcolm Disson, 58, won a £4 million Grade II listed mansion in Little Ouseburn, North Yorkshire, complete with a lake, tennis court and a separate two‑bedroom cottage, plus £250,000 in cash, through an Omaze prize draw. The entry cost him £30. The six‑bedroom house is mortgage‑free, with stamp duty and legal fees covered, and includes furnishings worth £155,000. Disson, who has lived in a three‑bedroom terraced house in Watford and a semi‑detached home in Newbury for the past 18 years, can choose to live in the property, rent it out or sell it.

Disson’s earlier life included a childhood disappointment when he won a dead goldfish at a fair in Hampstead Heath at age 12. He had struggled to keep his business, The British Shop, afloat after remortgaging his home in 2004 to start the company. The business, which handles packing and international shipping of fine art and antiques, nearly ruined him but he persisted.

The win is significant for Disson’s family. He has two daughters, Lilly (22) and Daisy (18), and believes the prize will give them greater financial security. He also has a border terrier, T‑Bone, who will join the new surroundings. Disson is already planning to host a Christmas gathering at the Yorkshire property.

The Omaze Million Pound House Draw also raised £4.5 million for Blood Cancer UK, adding a charitable dimension to the competition.

Disson has not visited Yorkshire before seeing his new home but has since explored York and is looking forward to local pubs, beers, tennis, a library and a potting shed.
