The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), working with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police, secured the extradition of Sajeer Palli Mooppam from the United Arab Emirates to India on Wednesday. Mooppam was arrested in the UAE after an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued at the request of Delhi Police. He is wanted in connection with a sexual assault case registered by Delhi Police. Investigators found that Mooppam and an accomplice forcibly administered an intoxicating substance to a 20‑year‑old woman, rendering her incapacitated. They then transported her to a hotel, fraudulently checking in with third‑party identity credentials, and assaulted her. Medical and forensic reports corroborated the assault. A comprehensive chargesheet has already been filed in the competent court.

Delhi Police asked the CBI to act through INTERPOL. The CBI obtained a Red Notice, which helped locate and arrest Mooppam in the UAE at the request of NCB‑New Delhi. After completing the required legal formalities, UAE authorities extradited him to India. A Delhi Police escort team travelled to the UAE, took custody of Mooppam and brought him back to New Delhi on 04.11.2026.

The CBI, as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, coordinates with all law‑enforcement agencies through BHARATPOL to facilitate the return of wanted fugitives. Since 2019, it has helped bring back more than 278 wanted criminals from abroad through cooperation with foreign law‑enforcement agencies.
