On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Congress party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of causing economic devastation through demonetisation and political damage through what it called "votebandi." Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, posted a screenshot of a media report that described the 2016 demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes as a disaster and a resounding failure a decade later.
