New Delhi:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the West Bengal government after sharing a disturbing video that allegedly shows a woman being brutally assaulted in public in South 24 Parganas district. The party accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of presiding over what it described as an “anti-women state.”
The video, widely circulated on social media, purportedly captures a woman and her family members being beaten with bamboo sticks in broad daylight in Uttar Bhangamari village under the Basanti block. BJP leaders claimed the incident highlights a complete collapse of law and order in the state.
Senior BJP leaders, including the party’s IT cell head and West Bengal observer, said the visuals were “deeply disturbing” and raised serious questions about women’s safety in the state. The opposition alleged that such incidents are becoming increasingly common and that perpetrators appear emboldened due to political protection and weak enforcement.
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari also shared the video, stating that women in the state are living in fear and demanding accountability from the ruling administration.

According to the complaint cited by BJP leaders, the alleged attackers have been identified, and the violence stemmed from a local dispute. However, the party insisted that the brutality of the assault reflects a much larger systemic failure.
BJP spokespersons further said that repeated incidents of violence against women have damaged the state’s image nationally and called for immediate corrective measures, including strict action against those responsible.
The Trinamool Congress government has yet to issue a detailed response to the specific allegations made in the video.
