England’s Jos Buttler has created history by becoming the highest run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket. The Manchester Super Giants batter surpassed West Indies legend Kieron Pollard’s long-standing record during The Hundred match against Welsh Fire at Old Trafford.
Buttler needed 22 runs to move past Pollard’s tally of 14,803 runs. He reached the landmark in emphatic fashion by hitting a six off Marco Jansen. The achievement came during a blistering unbeaten innings of 51 runs from just 20 balls, including two fours and six sixes.
The record-breaking performance helped Manchester Super Giants defeat Welsh Fire by nine wickets. Chasing a target of 156, the Super Giants reached the total with nine wickets in hand, ending their three-match losing streak. Buttler’s aggressive knock set the tone for a comfortable victory and added another major milestone to his career.
Buttler now has 14,833 runs from 522 T20 matches. His record includes nine centuries and 105 half-centuries, highlighting his consistency across domestic leagues, international cricket and franchise competitions around the world. Pollard remains second on the list with 14,803 runs from 746 matches, while former West Indies opener Chris Gayle is third with 14,562 runs.
The achievement is particularly significant because Buttler reached the record in far fewer matches than Pollard. While Pollard built his tally across a lengthy career in several major T20 leagues, Buttler has combined explosive batting with a consistent presence at the top of the order for England and various franchise teams.
The inclusion of The Hundred statistics in overall T20 records has occasionally led to discussion because the tournament uses 20 five-ball overs rather than the traditional 20 six-ball overs. However, performances from the competition are generally included in T20 records because the tournament follows the same limited-overs structure.
Buttler’s latest achievement marks another stage in his rise as one of the most influential batters in modern white-ball cricket. Known for his attacking stroke play, he has played a key role in England’s success across limited-overs formats and has become one of the most sought-after players in franchise cricket.
After reaching the milestone, Buttler also backed Indian teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to eventually surpass his tally. His prediction has added another layer of interest to the record, particularly as the young batter continues to attract attention with his rapid progress.
