Sunny Deol Gets Emotional at Border 2 Launch, Says Father Dharmendra’s Haqeeqat Shaped His Love for War Films

Date:

At the grand music launch of Border 2 in Jaisalmer, emotions ran high as Sunny Deol fondly remembered his father, legendary actor Dharmendra, and revealed how one of his films changed his life forever.

The event, held at an amphitheatre near the iconic Tanot Mata Temple, marked the release of the patriotic song Ghar Kab Aaoge. Addressing BSF soldiers and thousands of attendees, Sunny Deol shared that his decision to do the original Border came from watching his father’s 1964 war classic Haqeeqat during childhood.

“Haqeeqat Stayed With Me Forever”

Visibly moved, Sunny recalled how Haqeeqat left a deep impression on him as a young boy. He explained that when he later became an actor, those memories guided him toward patriotic cinema. That emotional connection ultimately led to conversations with filmmaker JP Dutta and the decision to make Border, based on the Battle of Longewala.

What touched Sunny most, however, was the impact the film had beyond cinema. He shared that soldiers across the country have repeatedly told him they were inspired to join the Indian Army after watching Border—a revelation that left him overwhelmed and teary-eyed on stage.

He concluded his speech with one of the film’s powerful lines, asking, “Aawaz kahan tak pahuchni chahiye?” before answering with conviction, “Lahore tak.”

A Patriotic Evening in Jaisalmer

The event saw a massive turnout of nearly 12,000 people and was attended by Varun Dhawan, Ahaan Shetty, Sonu Nigam, and producer Bhushan Kumar, along with senior BSF officials. The atmosphere was charged with patriotism as the new version of Ghar Kab Aaoge—a reimagined tribute to Sandese Aate Hain—played against the desert backdrop.
