India Aim to Finish Strong as Sri Lanka Seek Consolation in Series Finale

Date:

India will look to round off an impressive home season with a clean sweep against Sri Lanka in the final Women’s T20I, while the visitors hope to salvage pride by exploiting lapses in the hosts’ fielding.

Despite losing all four matches so far, Sri Lanka showed signs of improvement in the previous game, where they finally got the opportunity to chase a target. Contributions from multiple batters, rather than relying solely on captain Chamari Athapaththu, gave the side renewed belief as they prepare for one last challenge before turning their focus to the upcoming T20 World Cup.

India, however, have been largely dominant throughout the series. Early toss advantages helped them set the tone, but their batting depth—led by the formidable opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma—has ensured comfortable victories regardless of conditions. The duo stitched together India’s highest-ever T20I partnership, and the team has barely needed to go beyond its top five batters so far.

Sri Lanka will take confidence from Hasini Perera’s aggressive start in the fourth T20I, where she attacked India’s new-ball bowlers and provided momentum at the top. The visitors will also be keen to capitalise on India’s uncharacteristic fielding errors, with dropped chances offering a potential opening to close the gap between the sides.

For India, Shafali Verma remains the standout performer of the series, scoring heavily at a remarkable strike rate and dismantling every bowling plan Sri Lanka have tried. With three consecutive half-centuries, she will be keen to continue her run-scoring spree. On the Sri Lankan side, Hasini Perera will be eyeing a maiden T20I fifty, which could boost her credentials ahead of the World Cup.

Team combinations may still see minor tweaks, with India possibly handing a debut to a youngster, while Sri Lanka are expected to continue rotating players as they search for the right balance.

The pitch is likely to favour batters again, with dew expected later in the evening, making chasing an attractive option. Humid conditions could also test players’ fitness.

A victory for India would mark another emphatic 5–0 T20I series win, underlining their dominance, while Sri Lanka will aim to avoid a whitewash and carry some momentum into their global tournament preparations.
