The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a drop in minimum temperatures across West Bengal, with a 2-3°C decline expected in south Bengal districts from Thursday, December 25, 2025. The IMD has also indicated that night temperatures in north Bengal districts will fall by up to two degrees at a few locations.
Cold Weather to Persist
The IMD forecast predicts that dry weather will dominate across all districts of West Bengal over the next seven days. The weather department also mentioned that shallow to moderate fog is likely to form in some areas during the morning hours.

Chilly Conditions in North Bengal
The hill town of Darjeeling recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state on Wednesday, December 24, with temperatures dropping to 4.8°C. The Alipurduar region in north Bengal also recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 9°C, while other areas saw significantly low temperatures:
- Sriniketan: 10°C
- Kalimpong: 10.5°C
- Bardhaman: 11°C
- Baharampur: 11°C
Meanwhile, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 14.9°C, according to the IMD.

The IMD’s forecast indicates that West Bengal will experience continued cold weather for the coming week, with temperatures expected to dip further in certain areas. Residents are advised to take precautions against the chilly conditions and possible fog during early mornings.
