A Punjabi traveller’s reaction to the cleanliness of Kasaragod railway station in Kerala has captured attention on social media. In a video shared on Instagram, travel content creator Anmol, known online as Backpacker Anmol, expressed surprise at the station’s clean platforms, well-maintained tracks and comfortable passenger facilities.
The video, titled “This is not Japan, it is Kerala,” shows Anmol exploring the railway station during his first visit to the state. He said he had always heard about Kerala’s educated and progressive society, but seeing the quality of public infrastructure in person left him impressed.
The traveller highlighted that the platform appeared free of litter, dust and scattered waste. The tracks were also shown looking clean, while passengers waited calmly for their trains. He said it was the first time he had seen such a clean and beautiful railway station in India.
Anmol also drew attention to the station’s passenger amenities. The video showed comfortable seating areas, clean waiting spaces and a dedicated lounge fitted with massage chairs. He also mentioned the availability of working ATMs, hygienic drinking-water facilities and separate washrooms for men and women.
According to the traveller, dustbins were placed across the station and passengers appeared to be contributing to the cleanliness by avoiding littering. The clean floors, shining seats and orderly surroundings added to the overall impression of a well-maintained public space.
The video quickly gained traction online, receiving more than 7.8 lakh views and thousands of comments. Several users welcomed Anmol to Kerala, while local residents encouraged him to explore Kasaragod’s natural and cultural attractions.
Some commenters suggested that he visit Bekal Fort, Ranipuram and Ananthapura Lake Temple. Others described Kasaragod as a meeting place of several languages and cultures, reflecting the district’s unique identity in northern Kerala.
The viral response has also renewed conversations about cleanliness at Indian railway stations. While many passengers often complain about litter, poor sanitation and inadequate waiting facilities, Anmol’s video presented a positive visitor’s perspective of Kasaragod station.
His reaction has made the station a talking point beyond Kerala, with viewers praising both the infrastructure and the civic responsibility visible in the video. For many users, the clip served as a reminder that cleanliness at public places depends not only on maintenance staff but also on the everyday behaviour of passengers.
