Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has firmly put to rest speculation about leadership changes within the BJP ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, making it clear that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will continue under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at the “Unstoppable Maharashtra” conclave organised by NDTV Marathi Manch in Mumbai, Fadnavis said there was no reason to consider any alternative leadership as long as Prime Minister Modi remains fit and active.
“There is absolutely no need to think of anyone else,” Fadnavis said, responding to questions about whether he could one day succeed PM Modi. “He is physically and mentally extremely fit and works harder than people much younger than him.”

Praise for PM Modi’s Work Ethic
Fadnavis went on to highlight the Prime Minister’s discipline and work routine, saying Modi puts in more than 17 hours of work every day.
“He works longer hours than most 40-year-olds and remains fully focused throughout meetings,” the Maharashtra Chief Minister said. “As long as he continues in this form, he will remain our leader — including in 2029.”
Response to Congress Leader’s Remark
Fadnavis’s comments came as a direct response to a recent statement by Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, which had stirred political debate.
At a press conference last week, Chavan referred to political developments in the United States and suggested that global events could have ripple effects on Indian politics. In that context, he hinted at the possibility of a “Marathi Prime Minister” emerging in the future.
The remark gained attention largely because Devendra Fadnavis is often mentioned in political discussions as a prominent national leader from Maharashtra.
However, Fadnavis made it clear that such speculation was unnecessary and misplaced.
BJP’s Stand Made Clear
By addressing the issue publicly, Fadnavis underscored the BJP’s current position — that Prime Minister Modi remains the central figure of the party and the NDA.
His remarks leave little room for doubt about the party’s leadership plans and signal continuity rather than transition as the 2029 elections approach.

Marking One Year of His Third Term
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis marked one year of his third term as Maharashtra Chief Minister during a visit to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He thanked the people of the state for their support and mandate.
“Over the past year, our focus has been on putting Maharashtra firmly on the path of development,” he said, reiterating his government’s commitment to growth and governance.
