PM Modi Highlights India’s Healthcare Progress, Calls Ayushman Bharat a Global Milestone

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is now recognised as a country running the world’s largest healthcare programme, as he highlighted the government’s efforts to make quality medical care more affordable and accessible for citizens over the past 12 years. Speaking about the progress made under the vision of “Swasth Bharat,” the Prime Minister pointed to Ayushman Bharat as one of the country’s most important healthcare initiatives, designed to provide medical support to vulnerable families and reduce the financial burden of treatment. He also underlined the role of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana in making medicines more affordable, along with steps that have brought down the cost of stents, knee implants and other essential medical needs for many people. According to the government’s healthcare push, the expansion of medical colleges, increase in medical seats, growth of health infrastructure and wider use of digital health services have helped bring healthcare closer to people across different parts of the country. The Prime Minister said these efforts are part of a larger commitment to build a healthier India, where poor and middle-class families do not have to face heavy financial pressure during medical emergencies. The statement comes as the government continues to highlight 12 years of healthcare reforms, with Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and digital consultation platforms being presented as key pillars of India’s evolving public health system. While challenges in healthcare access and affordability still remain in a country as large and diverse as India, the latest remarks place healthcare at the centre of the government’s development narrative and reinforce the idea that wider coverage, cheaper medicines and stronger medical infrastructure will remain major priorities in the coming years.
