Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is reportedly preparing to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and launch a new political platform in Tamil Nadu, triggering major speculation in state politics. According to reports, Annamalai is expected to meet senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah and Nitin Nabin, before formally explaining his decision. His possible exit is believed to be linked to differences over the BJP’s alliance strategy with the AIADMK and candidate selection issues during the recent Tamil Nadu elections. Sources indicate that Annamalai may first launch a people’s movement before converting it into a full political party within six to eight months. The proposed outfit is likely to be positioned as a secular regional force with a national outlook, possibly built around a “Dravidian 2.0” vision focused on Tamil identity, development and inclusive politics. Posters supporting Annamalai have already appeared in Coimbatore, adding to speculation about his next move. If he does leave the BJP, it could become one of the most significant political shifts in Tamil Nadu after the rise of actor Vijay’s TVK.
