India Calls Attacks on Commercial Shipping ‘Unacceptable’, Urges Safe Passage at UN

Date:

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, India has taken a firm stand on the global stage, calling attacks on commercial shipping “unacceptable” and urging the international community to ensure safe navigation through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at the United Nations, India emphasized the importance of keeping vital sea routes secure, especially at a time when geopolitical uncertainties are already impacting global trade and energy supply chains.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors, handles a significant portion of global oil shipments. Any disruption in this narrow waterway can have far-reaching consequences, not only for regional stability but also for economies worldwide—including India, which relies heavily on energy imports.

India’s statement reflects growing concern over recent incidents affecting shipping routes in the region. By urging all parties to respect international maritime laws and ensure the safety of vessels, India highlighted the need for restraint and cooperation.

The appeal also underscores India’s broader diplomatic approach—advocating for peaceful navigation, stability, and adherence to international norms, while safeguarding its own economic interests.

As tensions continue to unfold, the global community will be closely watching how nations respond to ensure that critical trade routes remain open and secure, preventing further escalation in an already fragile region.
