A 33‑year‑old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was found dead while on duty at the Khanuwa Border Outpost (BOP) in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district during the night between Saturday and Sunday, police said. The incident occurred at about 1:40 a.m. A gunshot was heard, prompting fellow personnel to rush to the scene where they discovered the soldier critically injured; he later died from his injuries. Nautanwa circle officer Basant Singh reported that police received information about the death and immediately sent a team to the outpost. The body was taken for post‑mortem examination, and the service rifle used in the incident was also seized for investigation. Police and SSB authorities have begun an inquiry, and the soldier’s family has been notified. Preliminary reports indicate the jawan was experiencing emotional distress after the death of his elder brother about two and a half months ago; he had returned to duty on October 3 after taking leave.
