Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with ministers and an MLA, celebrated Deepavali with a beneficiary of the Indiramma housing scheme at Parsapur village in Kodangal mandal on Sunday, November 8 2026. The event was part of the ‘Maa Indiramma Intlo Deepavali’ programme, designed to bring the government’s flagship housing initiative to families who have received permanent homes. Reddy inaugurated the newly built house of Goripalli Sumitra and Srinivas, presented the family with new clothes, and shared a traditional Deepavali meal of fine rice at their residence. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Ministers Seethakka, Jupally Krishna Rao, Damodar Rajanarasimha and other public representatives joined the family for lunch.

Later that day, Reddy also inaugurated a science museum in Kosgi, a primary health centre in Balampet, police stations in Dudyala and Kodangal, a high school and junior college in Hakimpet, and a new government junior college building in Doulatabad, all within his Kodangal constituency.

The Indiramma Housing scheme is the flagship programme of the Reddy government. Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy recently announced that about 2.21 lakh Indiramma houses have been completed across the state. The government has sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses in the first phase and another 2.5 lakh in the second phase, with plans to construct an additional 1 lakh houses in the Hyderabad urban region. Beneficiaries are selected in an open lot without political interference, and the programmes are held in open spaces in the presence of all applicants. The state has committed roughly ₹40 000 crore toward the two phases and the proposed urban housing programme. Official housing department data from October showed that ₹7 634 crore had been released to beneficiaries for construction assistance.

The Indiramma scheme was a key promise of the Congress before the 2023 Assembly elections, pledging a house to every eligible homeless family with financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for construction. Houses feature two rooms, a kitchen and a toilet. In the first phase, 4.5 lakh houses were sanctioned, with 3,500 houses earmarked for each Assembly constituency.
