Royal Family Attend London’s Festival of Remembrance

King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, joined 10,000 veterans and serving personnel at the Royal Albert Hall for this year’s Festival of Remembrance. The audience stood as a fanfare sounded when the royals entered the hall. The King will lead the nation in a two‑minute silence on Sunday to remember those who died in the two world wars and other conflicts. The ceremony will also be held at the Cenotaph in central London, where senior royals and political leaders will lay wreaths. The Royal British Legion’s march‑past will feature veterans from more than 300 armed forces and civilian organisations. The festival, broadcast on BBC One at 21:00 and hosted by Clive Myrie, included performances by Alfie Boe, Mica Paris and armed forces bands such as the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment. The Chelsea Pensioners were among the attendees. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the end of the First Gulf War and the 15th anniversary of the conclusion of British military operations in Iraq under Operation Telic. Prince George, Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Defence Secretary Wes Streeting were also present. Remembrance Sunday, observed on the Sunday nearest 11 November, offers an opportunity to honour sacrifice, express gratitude and reflect on the courage of those who serve. The prime minister thanked those who served and those who continue to serve in the armed forces.
