Kansas Democrat Adam Hamilton Wins Senate Seat, Sets Focus on Kansas Interests

Democrat Adam Hamilton defeated incumbent Senator Roger Marshall on Tuesday to become Kansas’ U.S. senator-elect, marking the first time a Kansas Democrat has been elected to the Senate in 94 years. Hamilton said his primary focus will be on what is best for the people of Kansas, stating that party lines will not hinder that goal. "If the President actually had an idea that was good for the people of Kansas, I’m supportive. If Chuck Schumer has an idea that’s good for the people of Kansas, I’m all in. If either of them have an idea that’s bad for Kansas? I’m a hard no," he said. Hamilton also indicated that he is not concerned with pursuing investigations into the Trump administration, a stance that differs from some other Democrats. "My primary interest isn’t spending the next two years in investigations and trials. My primary interest is what do we have to do in the next two years to help the American people," he said. He plans to concentrate on issues such as immigration reform, social security, long‑term health care reform, and the national debt. Hamilton and the other senators‑elect will take office on Jan. 3, 2027.
