President Donald Trump announced that Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff. Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday that Miller would begin the role on Monday, describing him as “one of my most trusted advisors.” He added that Wiles, who has “done an outstanding job,” will move to the Trump Political Operation. Wiles said Friday would be her last day in the White House and posted that serving the president had been “the honour of a lifetime.” She highlighted achievements such as securing the border, cutting taxes, strengthening the economy and putting America First. Al Jazeera reported that Wiles submitted her resignation to Trump in the Oval Office on Thursday, and a Republican Party official confirmed the president accepted it. Miller, who joined Trump’s 2016 campaign as an adviser, has been a close confidant during both presidential terms. Democrats are expected to investigate Miller after the House and Senate shift to a Democratic majority in January. Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, likely to chair the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement to Al Jazeera that Democrats will continue to investigate Miller’s conduct and oppose his policies. Trump’s appointment follows the midterm elections, in which Democrats gained seven Senate seats and 253 House seats, with 27 races still pending. The move is seen as a continuation of Miller’s influence on controversial policies, including the administration’s immigration crackdown. White House communications director Steven Cheung praised Miller on X, calling him a “Trump OG” and a key advocate for the president’s agenda. Miller has not yet commented on the election results, but on election day he urged supporters to vote in a post on X, urging them to protect their future and inheritance.
