Tamil Nadu Names Three Special Public Prosecutors for Veeramani POCSO Cases

The Tamil Nadu government has appointed K.R. Sankaran, M. Sandhiya and Swami Subramanian as Special Public Prosecutors under Section 31(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The appointment, issued on Friday, follows the decision to handle the sensitive and complex cases involving Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani. Veeramani and his associates face seven POCSO cases and an additional case of abetment to suicide of a minor in 2004. Police reports indicate that investigations in at least two cases are in the final stages, with chargesheets expected to be filed next week. Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline 104, Tele-MANAS 14416, and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050.
