BJP to Host Havan for LK Advani’s 99th Birthday, PM Modi Expected to Attend

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a special celebration for party veteran LK Advani’s 99th birthday on Sunday. A havan will be held at the party headquarters, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to call on Advani. The event will be attended by BJP president Nitin Nabin and other senior leaders closely associated with Advani.

Advani, born in Karachi in undivided India, is a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. He began his political career in 1951 by joining the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the BJP, and later became a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the party.

He served as BJP president three times – 1986‑1990, 1993‑1998 and 2004‑2005 – and held key positions in the National Democratic Alliance government, including Union Home Minister (1998‑2004) and Deputy Prime Minister (2002‑2004) under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Advani was a prominent figure in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times and the Rajya Sabha four times.

After the BJP’s decisive victory in 2014, Advani, along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi, was appointed to the Margdarshak Mandal, an advisory body.

The celebration will mark Advani’s long and influential career in Indian politics.
