Congress MP Tharoor Congratulates Nithya Raman on LA Mayoral Victory
By HT News Desk
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram, posted on X on Thursday congratulating Nithya Raman on her election as Mayor of Los Angeles. In the tweet, Tharoor referred to Raman as “a daughter of Thiruvananthapuram” and noted that with Zohran Mamdani’s appointment in New York, two of America’s largest cities would be led by people of Indian origin. He added that he believed Raman and Mamdani would perform “a far better job” than mayors in India, citing the limited authority that Indian mayors have under a British‑era system. Raman, 45, won the Los Angeles mayoral race with 51.1% of the vote, defeating incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, 73, who received 48.33%. The election, reported by the Los Angeles Times, was still considered close by analysts. Los Angeles voters were focused on issues such as homelessness, public safety and affordable housing.
