Athletic and Real Sociedad Fans March in Tribute to Legends Ahead of Basque Derby

Ahead of the Basque derby, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad supporters will gather in the San Mamés area on 1 November 2026. Fans will fill the bars at Licenciado Poza before kick‑off, wearing red, white and txuri‑urdin colours. A kalejira will depart from Padrino’s on José María Escuza, accompanied by the Santutxu brass band Sama Siku. The march is organised by four Athletic supporters’ clubs: 7 de abril‑Aitor Paredes, Athletic Karajo, Peña Antón and Euskal Lions. The 7 de abril‑Aitor Paredes club, which honours centre‑back Unai Simón and former goalkeeper José Ángel Iribar, urges supporters to wear black in homage to the two legends. The route starts at Padrino’s, moves to Garby (home of Athletic Karajo), then to Areilza Berria (Peña Antón) and ends at Campeón where Euskal Lions gather. Simón, who lifted the Yashin Trophy on Monday as the world’s best goalkeeper for last season, gave an emotional speech at the Ballon d’Or gala after winning a France Football vote by journalists from the 100 highest‑ranked FIFA nations. Separately, the fan group Iñigo Cabacas Herri Harmaila will stage its own pre‑match kalejira from 65 Licenciado Poza to San Mamés so members can head straight into the end where they back the team.
