Manjeet Singh Unopposed for IOA Athletes’ Commission; Kidambi Srikanth Pulls Out

Former rower and canoeist Manjeet Singh has been elected unopposed to the Indian Olympic Association Athletes’ Commission after being the only candidate to file a nomination in the male medalist category. The nomination was submitted by Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, the Electoral Officer, and the notification issued on Monday confirmed that Singh, a treasurer with the Haryana Olympic Association, will not be subject to the election.

Shuttle‑player Kidambi Srikanth withdrew his nomination from the draft list, leaving ten athletes—PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu, Harmanpreet Singh, Swapnil Kusale, and others—to contest nine seats when the polls take place on Tuesday, November 3.

The final list now contains four male candidates—Swapnil Suresh Kusale (shooter), Harmanpreet Singh (hockey captain), Sajan Prakash (swimmer), and Tajinderpal Singh Toor (athlete)—and six women: PV Sindhu (badminton), Salima Tete (hockey), Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting), Laishram Bombayla Devi (archery), Sudha Singh (athletics), and Bhavani Devi (fencing).

The Electoral Officer’s notification states that the election will fill the remaining nine positions: four male members (three Olympian category and one medalist category) and five female members (three Olympian category and two medalist category). The updated list differs from the draft nominations published on October 22, which had twelve names across nine sports. Manjeet’s unopposed status and Srikanth’s withdrawal have reshaped the roster ahead of the voting.
