Valentin Vacherot recorded a memorable win at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Saturday by defeating sixth seed Taylor Fritz in the semi‑finals. The 27‑year‑old won 7‑6(5), 6‑3 to reach his first final of the season and became the first Monegasque to reach the championship match in the tournament’s history. Vacherot survived Fritz’s powerful serves with a strong service game of his own, winning 78 % of points on his first serve and striking 10 aces to Fritz’s 11. He broke Fritz at 4‑3 in the second set and held on to seal the victory after 1 hour 26 minutes. "You just have to pray on the returns because Taylor is one of the best servers on Tour," Vacherot said. "His spots are just amazing. Sometimes you can anticipate it, but you cannot even touch it. I am just super happy I got that break at 4‑3 in the second set. I guessed well and executed it well." The win evened their Lexus ATP Head‑to‑Head series at 1‑1; Vacherot had lost to Fritz in the first round last year at the same event. Fritz, who is 12th in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, was looking to improve his chances of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals. Vacherot’s Basel run included victories over Mariano Navone, third seed Rafael Jodar, former World No. 4 Holger Rune and World No. 13 Fritz. With Fritz’s exit, next‑gen star Jodar will enter the Top 10 for the first time when the latest PIF ATP Rankings are released on Monday. Vacherot, who last won a title at the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters, now faces eighth seed Jiri Lehecka in the final. Lehecka, who defeated Jan‑Lennard Struff 3‑6, 7‑5, 6‑4 in the other semi‑final, saved a match point at 4‑5, 40‑ad in the second set and finished with 22 aces to Struff’s 11. The Czech’s win puts him in his third final of the season, after appearances in Miami and Tokyo.}
