American Tourist Injured in Car Crash on Tiruvannamalai–Bengaluru Road

Three people were injured when a car they were travelling in collided with an autorickshaw on the Tiruvannamalai–Bengaluru High Road at Manmalai village near Chengam town on Saturday. The injured are Glendy, 51, an American tourist, V. Bila, 29, a cab driver from Kalasapakkam town near Arani, and G. Elumalai, 38, an autorickshaw driver from Nachipattu village near Chengam town. An initial inquiry found that Bargavin, 58, and his wife Glendy, an American couple from California, had been touring sites such as Yelagiri Hills and Gingee Fort by cab. While returning to Chennai, an autorickshaw suddenly entered the road from a village road, causing the cab driver to lose control and hit the three‑wheeler. The accident, which occurred around 8 a.m., left all three injured. Passersby and other motorists helped the victims, who were taken to Government Taluk Hospital in Chengam and then referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai. Police said that low visibility due to thick morning mist on the stretch may have contributed to the crash. Further investigation is underway.
