The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will undertake a comprehensive overhaul of the Central Silk Board Junction after Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda instructed officials to prepare a permanent development plan for the busy traffic hub. Gowda said the plan should improve traffic movement, pedestrian facilities and public spaces. He directed the GBA to earmark funds for the junction’s overall development and to install a steel grid over the stormwater drain, with a pedestrian walkway alongside it. The space beneath the flyover will be turned into a public area with seating and recreational facilities, including a throwball court and potential table‑tennis facilities. A public toilet and improved footpaths are also proposed.

Gowda launched the ‘Ward One’ campaign during an inspection of the junction on Saturday, symbolically starting the initiative by painting the flyover pillars. The campaign will be rolled out across 43 wards under the five city corporations, focusing on major junctions and ward‑level infrastructure.

He noted that Silk Board has become a major traffic hub where several projects—metro, flyover, Outer Ring Road and the NHAI elevated road—converge, and that lakhs of commuters use the junction daily. During the inspection, he pulled up Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials after noticing sewage flowing into the stormwater drain and directed the planning of a new drain from Silk Board Junction to HSR Layout to prevent flooding during heavy rains, coordinating with the ongoing white‑topping project.
