Three Arrested in Telangana After Husband’s Body Dumped in Lake

A woman and two men have been arrested in Banswada, Telangana, after police determined that they murdered the husband of the woman and disposed of his body in a lake to make the death appear accidental. The victim, Chakali, alias Gummadi Kashiram, was a 26‑year‑old daily‑wage labourer from Hanmajipet village. He was found dead on the night of 23 October 2026 at Pachera Cheruvu pond on the outskirts of Hanmajipet. Kashiram’s father, Chakali Bhumayya, filed a complaint, leading Banswada police to register a suspicious death case. A preliminary post‑mortem later indicated murder, and the case was reclassified under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police intensified the investigation, examined the scene, recorded witness statements and gathered technical evidence. On 30 October, acting on credible information, police apprehended three suspects from Hanmajipet: Chintakindi Ramu, 26, a daily‑wage labourer; Pasupula Santhosh, 25, a tractor driver; and Gummadi Savitha, 25, the deceased’s wife. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Police say Savitha was involved in relationships with Ramu and Santhosh and conspired with them to murder her husband. According to the police, the trio took Kashiram out on the night of 23 October under the pretext of drinking alcohol. Once he was heavily intoxicated, Ramu allegedly strangled him with a nylon rope while Santhosh restrained his hands to prevent escape. They then dumped the body in Panchera Cheruvu and attempted to destroy evidence. Police seized mobile phones and other material used in the crime. A case was registered under Sections 103 and 238, read with Section 3(5) of the BNS. The three accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
