Telangana HC Reserves Verdict on Plea to Modify Order Against Police Over Assembly Entry Row

Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on an interim application seeking modification of an earlier directive instructing the police chief to take action against 'erring police officials' allegedly responsible for preventing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators from entering the Assembly the previous day. The judge indicated that the ruling would be pronounced within a day or two.
Appearing for the state government, Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy argued for modification of the order, asserting that the police were not at fault and had merely acted on instructions from the Chief Marshal of the Assembly. He cited Rule 316 of the Assembly Business Rules, which permits the Chief Marshal to seek police assistance when necessary to maintain order during Assembly proceedings.
The Advocate General further contended that the photographs submitted by the BRS party, which had filed the writ petition alleging police obstruction of its legislators, presented only a partial account of the incident.
Senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao, representing the petitioners, opposed the request for modification, stating that the original order specifically targeted only those police officers found to be at fault. He argued that if no officer was found responsible for wrongdoing, no action would be taken against anyone, making the requested modification unnecessary.
