25‑Year‑Old Man Stabbed to Death in West Bengal Flat; Live‑In Partner and Mother Arrested

A 25‑year‑old resident of Garia in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was stabbed to death inside a rented flat on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. The victim, Sarthak Sarkar, was found lying on his bed with multiple wounds after a quarrel with his live‑in partner, 24‑year‑old Sanchalika Basu. Sarkar was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. His father and sister, who live in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district, reported that his phone was unreachable for several hours that evening. They said Sanchalika informed their sister that Sarkar had been taken to the hospital in critical condition. The family went to Garia and sought help from neighbours to enter the flat. The body was sent for post‑mortem examination to determine the cause and time of death. Sanchalika Basu and her mother, Moumita Basu, were arrested on Sunday on charges filed by the victim’s family. Doctors found stab wounds on Sarkar’s shoulder and upper body, and scratch marks on Sanchalika’s neck indicating a struggle. Police have sealed the flat and begun an investigation.
