Gurugram Police to Discipline Home Guard After Viral Video of Cash‑Seeking Incident

Gurugram Police announced on Sunday that it would take disciplinary action against a home guard after a video circulated on Instagram showing the officer allegedly asking a content creator for a Diwali gift. The video, posted by Vikas Dayal, depicts the interaction at a checkpoint where the guard refused to accept payment via UPI and appeared to seek cash. Dayal, who did not carry his wallet, offered to send money through UPI, but the guard replied, “No, no. I don’t do UPI.” The conversation shifted to a Diwali hamper that the guard eventually accepted. The clip has amassed more than 1.4 million views in 24 hours.

In a separate enforcement effort, Gurugram Police said it had registered 36 cases under the Explosives Act and arrested 23 people during a special drive targeting illegal firecracker sale and storage ahead of Diwali. The operation involved 53 special teams at the police station, ACP and DCP levels, and special crime branch teams inspecting markets, firecracker shops, warehouses and other suspected sites. Surveillance is ongoing to curb unauthorized sale, storage and distribution of fireworks, and legal action will be pursued against violators. Of the 36 cases, 10 were in the East zone (nine arrests), five in the South zone (two arrests), nine in the West zone (nine arrests) and 12 in the Manesar zone (three arrests).
