RJD MP Urges President to Act Against Delhi University Professor Over Alleged Caste‑Based Remarks

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Yadav sent a letter to President Draupadi Murmu on 6 November 2026, asking her to order strict action against Delhi University professor Sangeet Ragi. Yadav said Ragi allegedly used abusive language against the Yadav community during a televised debate, claiming the remarks were made at the behest of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He argued that the incident should be punished as an example, so that no one in India can insult any community in the name of freedom of expression. The three‑page letter was shared with the media on 7 November 2026. Yadav expressed concern that Ragi’s comments, reportedly including the term “gawar” with “Ahir”, had caused public resentment and raised issues about caste identity and social stereotypes. He highlighted that a university professor, especially in political science, should uphold constitutional morality, democratic values, social equality and respect for all communities. Yadav cited Ragi’s past remarks about women, Dalits and the broader “bahujan” community as evidence of a pattern of unacceptable language. He noted that the Yadav/Ahir community has a long historical and cultural genealogy and has contributed significantly to India’s armed forces and national leadership. Yadav requested that Ragi’s PhD theses be re‑investigated for methodology, facts and sources. He emphasized that freedom of expression cannot be used to humiliate communities and that universities should be spaces for reasoned debate. Yadav asked the President, as Visitor of Delhi University, to conduct an impartial inquiry and take appropriate action in line with the Constitution, applicable laws and university regulations.
