Regis Resources Halts Operations at Duketon South Mine After Contractor Fatality
By Today News Hours Editorial Desk

Regis Resources announced that operations at its Duketon South gold mine in the northern Goldfields have been suspended following the fatal injury of a contractor. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the Duketon South site, part of the broader Duketon Operations located 130 km north of Laverton, which has been active since 2012 and includes both open‑pit and underground mining. The company confirmed that West Australian Police and WorkSafe are investigating the event and that Regis is fully cooperating. Next of kin have been notified and the company is offering support to those affected, with employee assistance programs activated. A West Australian Police spokesperson said that mine site medical staff provided first aid before emergency services arrived, but the 75‑year‑old contractor could not be revived. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner. Duketon South hosts the five‑million‑tonne‑per‑annum Garden Well and the 2.5‑million‑tonne‑per‑annum Rosement processing plants. Regis, listed on the ASX, is one of Australia’s largest gold producers with a market capitalisation of about $5.2 billion.
