RBA Deputy Governor's Inflation Warning Sparks Rate Hike Predictions for September

A growing number of economists now anticipate that the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) board will raise the cash rate at its meeting later this month, with some suggesting a further increase could follow in November. The shift in expectations comes after RBA deputy governor Andrew Hauser indicated that both inflation and economic growth remain higher than desired.

Speaking in a rare television interview on Tuesday night, Hauser acknowledged several positive aspects of the Australian economy, including unemployment rates near historic lows and robust GDP growth. However, he emphasized that policymakers are grappling with a significant challenge.

"We have one big problem and that's inflation," Hauser said, highlighting the central issue facing the RBA as it considers its next move on interest rates.
