Tyrese Maxey’s Quick‑Fire Jab to VJ Edgecombe Sparks Social Media Buzz
By Alder Almo
During the 112‑106 win over the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena, Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey scolded teammate VJ Edgecombe after the rookie missed a layup against Cade Cunningham in the closing seconds of the third quarter. Maxey shouted, “You ass! It’s OK!” The clip, which shows Maxey’s mix of criticism and reassurance, went viral on X and was shared by ESPN’s NBA account, drawing more than 322,000 views and 2,800 reactions by Thursday afternoon.
Maxey finished the game with 19 points and seven assists, shooting 5‑of‑16 from the field, while Edgecombe added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes. Philadelphia’s Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 30 points and Joel Embiid posted 26 points and 15 rebounds.
Coach Nick Nurse praised Maxey for his play, noting the point guard’s seven assists and only one turnover despite Detroit’s defensive pressure. Nurse said Maxey handled the situation “pretty comfortably.” Maxey, who has been playing four games in six nights, said the demanding schedule was not a factor in his shooting struggles, calling it “life in the NBA.”
The exchange highlights the easygoing chemistry between Maxey and Edgecombe, the second‑year guard who was selected third overall in the 2025 draft and is still refining his game alongside Philadelphia’s backcourt.
