Reeves Offers 15‑Minute Zoom Chat to Raise Funds for Idaho Cancer Charity

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves supported children with cancer during the 2020 Covid‑19 pandemic by offering a private 15‑minute Zoom conversation to the highest bidder. The John Wick star’s experience, titled “15 Minutes of Fame with Keanu Reeves,” was part of Camp Rainbow Gold’s Shine for Camp online fundraising initiative. Camp Rainbow Gold, an Idaho‑based charity that provides emotionally empowering experiences for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, had to cancel its biggest annual event, the Share Your Heart Ball, just 48 hours before it was scheduled to take place. With in‑person fundraising disrupted, the organization turned to an online bidding platform that featured experiences from celebrities, businesses and other supporters. Reeves agreed to share a virtual glass of wine, tell stories, answer questions and even teach a few karate moves during the call, which was scheduled for the week beginning July 6, 2020. The highest bid for the experience reached $16,600, surpassing the initial estimated value of $10,000. The proceeds were intended to support Camp Rainbow Gold’s programs for children and families affected by cancer. Other celebrities, including singer Ally Brooke and voice actor Rob Paulsen, also offered personal experiences for the fundraiser, while businesses contributed holiday and travel experiences. The online initiative allowed the charity to continue its mission during a period when traditional fundraising opportunities were limited.
