Delhi Woman Pursues Phone Thieves on Scooter, Leads to Arrests

A 24‑year‑old Delhi resident, Khushi Maheshwari, chased two men who stole her iPhone 16 Pro on a scooter after the incident occurred on the night of October 28 near Shalimar Bagh Metro Station. Maheshwari was returning home from classes in Ashok Vihar when, around 8:30 pm, two men on a motorcycle approached from behind and snatched her phone. She fell to the road but quickly got back on her scooter and pursued the suspects for about 10 minutes, covering nearly 500 metres. The chase ended near the Ring Road flyover toward Mukundpur, where locals and police intervened. One suspect was caught by residents, while the other attempted to escape by jumping off the flyover before police apprehended him. The two accused, Sameer (19) of Bhalswa Dairy and Mohit (19), were taken into custody. Police recovered Maheshwari’s phone and three other mobiles from the suspects; two of those phones were linked to theft cases registered at Adarsh Nagar and Jahangirpuri police stations. The motorcycle used by the suspects was also found to be stolen. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North‑West) Akanksha Yadav praised Maheshwari’s courage and presented her with an appreciation letter. The incident highlights the role of community participation in ensuring neighbourhood safety and serves as a reminder that victims of phone snatching should prioritize personal safety, raise an alarm, and call the police helpline 112 rather than confront suspects directly.
