Bus-Truck Collision in Pakpattan Claims 11 Lives, 33 Injured

A passenger bus collided with a truck in Pakpattan district of Punjab province on Thursday, killing 11 people and injuring 33, police and rescue officials said. Hospital official Dr Ahmad Raza reported that rescue teams used cranes and other heavy machinery to free passengers trapped in the wreckage. The operation lasted nearly three hours. Authorities declared an emergency at the hospital and called in additional doctors and medical personnel to treat the injured, Raza added. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over the deaths in a statement shared on social media, extending condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. He urged relevant authorities to continue providing all possible support for medical treatment and relief operations. Road accidents are common in Pakistan, where poor road conditions, inadequate enforcement of traffic regulations and unsafe driving practices contribute to frequent collisions. Last month, at least 12 people were killed and around two dozen others injured after a bus collided with a van in the southwestern province of Balochistan, according to AP.
