YouTube Faces Loading Issues, No Fix Time Announced

By Shreya Biswas

YouTube has confirmed a loading problem that is preventing users from watching videos, but it has not provided a timeline for a fix. The company acknowledged the disruption on Wednesday, October 28, and said it was working on a solution as playback problems continued to surface. Users report videos failing to load, buffering repeatedly, or showing black screens instead of the player. The outage also affected YouTube Shorts, with users encountering similar playback errors.

Reports on Downdetector spiked, with more than 22,000 user complaints at one point, later rising above 24,000 according to Sportskeeda. These numbers reflect user submissions and may change as new reports come in.

In a post on its official Help Community, YouTube marked the issue as a “Known Issue” and stated, “We’ve seen reports of loading issues with YouTube, rest assured we’re working on a fix now!” The post listed possible symptoms, including “Video unavailable” messages, videos stuck loading or buffering, and black screens. Users were encouraged to report other problems, and YouTube said it would update the thread as more information became available.

No specific recovery time has been announced. Users can monitor the YouTube Help Community and TeamYouTube’s X account for updates.

Other Google services were also reported to be affected. Sportskeeda noted over 500 complaints about YouTube Music and around 140 about Google Search during the same period, although Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard listed those services as operational with no incidents reported.
