Al Jazeera Balkans Returns as Digital‑First Service

Al Jazeera Balkans (AJB) has relaunched across the Balkans on Sunday, November 1, adopting a digital‑first format. The move follows the channel’s closure in 2025 and builds on its 2011 launch, editorial credibility, regional expertise and distinctive voice. In the weeks before the relaunch, AJB published content on social media covering major regional events such as the Serbian elections and Albanian protests, generating nearly 100 million views. Jamal Elshayyal, Al Jazeera’s Director of Digital News Content and Languages, said the relaunch reaffirms the network’s mission to “go where the story matters” and to give a voice to the voiceless. He added that AJB aims to be a window from the Balkans to the world and back.

The new platform features a dedicated “Balkans” section on the website, with country‑specific coverage for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia and others. AJB will expand its social media presence with short‑form videos, explainers and podcasts, and will also focus on the Balkan diaspora in Germany, the United States and other countries. Audiences can follow AJB on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads and other platforms, as well as on its digital portal at balkans.aljazeera.net.
