Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed officials to speed up federal development projects in Gilgit‑Baltistan and ensure timely release of funds during a meeting in Islamabad on Friday, October 30, 2026. Chief Minister Amjad Hussain of the region also attended. Sharif ordered the removal of all bottlenecks and better coordination among institutions to expedite implementation. The meeting reviewed progress on hydropower, infrastructure and solar energy projects, including the 100‑megawatt solar power project and the China‑funded Naltar power project, and discussed installing digital infrastructure. The Prime Minister called for regular monitoring, especially of energy projects. A July‑constituted committee report on the directives was presented. Radio Pakistan reported that Sharif may visit Gilgit‑Baltistan on November 1. Gilgit‑Baltistan lies in northern Pakistan, adjacent to China and along the China‑Pakistan Economic Corridor, a key route linking Xinjiang with Pakistan’s Gwadar port. India considers the area part of its Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh territories and has urged Islamabad to vacate all territories it claims to occupy illegally. Published – October 31, 2026 10:24 pm IST
