Diljit Dosanjh Addresses Controversy During New Delhi Concert

Punjabi singer‑actor Diljit Dosanjh performed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday as part of his Aura India Tour. While singing his popular tracks, he made remarks that many interpreted as a response to criticism from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over his film ‘Satluj’ and his decision to stay away from student protests. Dosanjh said, “I love all of you because I am an artist, bro. I am being quiet, so let me stay quiet. I support all of you. But don’t teach Punjabis how to fight.” He also referenced the film about Jaswant Singh Khalra, stating, “The film you are making fun of on stage, Jaswant Singh Khalra’s film, we fought for that film for a long time. I love all of you. If someone hates us, it’s okay. But I love all of you.” The singer added, “Punjabion ko naa sikhaao kaise ladayiaan ladi jaati hain” (Do not teach Punjabis how to fight battles).

Following the viral videos, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke posted a lengthy note on social media titled “To Diljit Paaji.” In it, Dipke expressed that he had been hurt by Dosanjh’s earlier comment during a June protest, noting that he had always admired the singer’s courage and authenticity. Dipke also shared a selfie from a Chicago concert he attended in May and concluded with a personal message to the artist.

Earlier this year, Dosanjh had addressed criticism of his stance on student protests during an Instagram Live session, stating he was not bothered by attempts to create negativity.

The concert was held under tight security. Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory, warning of restrictions on Bhishma Pitamah Marg between Lodhi Road and Kotla Red Light. Delhi Police urged attendees to use the metro, citing the proximity of the JLN Stadium Metro Station and limited parking. DCP Traffic Southern Range Sandeep Gupta explained that pickup and drop‑off points were coordinated with Ola, Uber, and Google Maps, and requested that vehicles not park randomly on main carriageways.

After the New Delhi show, the India leg of the tour will continue to Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, with a future show planned in Chandigarh.
