Tripura Delays Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls to Avoid Clash with Urban Local Body Elections

The Election Commission of India has postponed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura to avoid a clash with the upcoming urban local body elections scheduled for November. The SIR, which had originally been planned to run from November 6 to December 5 for distributing pre‑filled enumeration forms, assisting voters, and collecting completed forms, has been moved. Under a notification issued to the chief electoral officer of Tripura, the Commission acknowledged a request dated 19 October 2026 to defer the SIR schedule. The new timetable, announced on Thursday, sets preparation, training and printing to begin on 15 December and finish on 24 December. The actual SIR exercise will take place from 26 December to 25 January next year, during which Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit every household. The draft electoral rolls will be published on 1 February, replacing the earlier 12 December date, and claims and objections will be filed between 1 February and 2 March. Disposal of these claims will occur from 1 February to 1 April, with the final publication of the roll on 7 April. Previously, the qualifying date for SIR had been 1 October, with the exercise slated to start on 5 September and conclude with the final roll on 23 December.
