DigiLocker Lets Users View Aadhaar Card but Not Update Mobile or Email

Aadhaar holders can view their Aadhaar card in digital format through DigiLocker, but the platform does not allow changes to personal details such as the registered mobile number or email address. According to the Digital India campaign, individuals who wish to update their Aadhaar information must visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre and follow the UIDAI process. DigiLocker is an online service that lets users store, access, share and verify documents digitally. Its website lists documents such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, driving licences and vehicle registration certificates. The service is part of the government’s paperless governance initiative and is integrated with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Users can access their Aadhaar information after linking their UIDAI number to their DigiLocker account, but the personal data displayed—name, address, mobile number and email ID—is sourced directly from the UIDAI database and cannot be modified on DigiLocker. Individuals who need to update their Aadhaar details must use the UIDAI process at designated enrolment or update centres. DigiLocker offers benefits by making documents available online, reducing the need for physical copies, easing paperwork for government departments, and allowing digital verification of official documents. Users can also self‑attest documents uploaded to the platform, further reducing physical paperwork in applicable processes.
