Opposition Plans ‘Mock Parliament’ Rally on Oct 28 to Press for CEC Resignation
By TNN

NEW DELHI – Ahead of a rally on Nov. 1, the joint opposition bloc is planning a “mock parliament” on Oct. 28 to intensify pressure on the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. The event, described as a small gathering that would depict an assembly of MPs, is intended to set an agenda that could include the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a discussion on the Supreme Court’s decision that the opposition says has caused mass disenfranchisement. The bloc also says it is preparing new demands on controversial issues to surprise the government. The opposition’s campaign began with a dharna called by the CJP on Oct. 10, followed by marches to the Election Commission office on Oct. 6, Rashtrapati Bhavan on Oct. 9, and the Supreme Court on Oct. 12. A larger “Delhi chalo” rally at Ramlila Maidan is planned to push for the CEC’s resignation. The mock session is part of the bloc’s strategy to sustain agitation for the CEC’s removal.
