2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift Becomes Safer, Smarter and More Enjoyable to Drive

Maruti Suzuki has updated the Brezza for 2026 with a sharper design, a significantly improved cabin and a new turbo-petrol engine, strengthening the compact SUV’s position against competitors such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO. Prices begin at ₹7.40 lakh ex-showroom, making the facelift an important attempt to modernise a model long regarded as one of the sensible and dependable choices in its segment. The exterior has not been completely redesigned, with Maruti retaining the Brezza’s upright proportions and familiar squared-off profile, but a revised grille, updated bumper, redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels and sportier detailing help distinguish it from the outgoing version. Turbo variants also receive prominent badges and contrasting accents that give the otherwise conservative SUV a more energetic appearance. The more meaningful changes are found inside, where the previous cabin’s ageing technology has been addressed through improved upholstery, soft-touch dashboard materials, 64-colour ambient lighting and a larger 10.1-inch SmartPlay Pro X infotainment touchscreen. New equipment includes ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging with active cooling, an air purifier with a PM2.5 filter and additional connected-car features, bringing the Brezza closer to the technology standards established by newer rivals. The biggest mechanical addition is the 1.0-litre Turbo BoosterJet petrol engine, producing approximately 109–110 bhp and 170 Nm of torque and paired exclusively with a new six-speed manual gearbox. During the first-drive review, the engine delivered useful torque at lower speeds, making urban driving easier, while its stronger mid-range performance provided sufficient power for overtaking on highways. The gearbox was reported to offer smooth shifts, while the tall sixth gear helped reduce engine effort during sustained high-speed cruising. The turbo engine does not transform the Brezza into a performance-focused SUV, but it gives the vehicle greater responsiveness without sacrificing the refinement and ease of use expected from a family car. Ride comfort remains one of the Brezza’s strongest qualities, with the suspension absorbing damaged roads effectively at lower speeds and maintaining stability as speed increases, although drivers seeking sharp and sporty cornering may find its comfort-focused setup less engaging. Safety has also received greater attention, with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assistance and a five-star Bharat NCAP rating offered across the range. Higher variants add technologies such as blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. Two important omissions remain: buyers cannot currently combine the turbo-petrol engine with an automatic gearbox, and the vehicle does not offer a Level 2 ADAS package despite several competitors increasingly introducing such systems. Maruti also continues to offer the familiar 1.5-litre petrol engine with manual and automatic transmissions, along with an S-CNG version whose underbody-mounted gas tank frees up more usable luggage space. Overall, the facelift does not fundamentally reinvent the Brezza, but it successfully improves the areas where the previous model had begun to fall behind. Its comfortable ride, improved technology, stronger safety package, broad powertrain selection and extensive Maruti Suzuki service network continue to make it a practical compact SUV, while the new turbo engine adds some welcome excitement for buyers who prefer driving a manual.
