Monsoon Intensifies Across India With Heavy Rain, Waterlogging and Travel Disruptions in Several States

Date:

Heavy monsoon rain continued to affect several parts of India on July 10, 2026, with the India Meteorological Department issuing alerts for multiple states as cities and rural regions dealt with waterlogging, traffic disruption, swollen rivers and travel delays. Delhi saw intense rainfall that led to severe waterlogging on key roads, slowing traffic and exposing the city’s drainage challenges during one of its strongest July rain spells in recent years. Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra remained under close watch as intermittent showers and earlier downpours kept civic authorities alert for flooding, local transport delays and low-lying area water accumulation. Heavy rain warnings were also reported for states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and parts of central and southern India, where thunderstorms, strong surface winds and localised flooding risks remained a concern. In hill states, authorities continued to monitor landslide-prone routes and flash-flood risks, while coastal and low-lying areas were advised to stay cautious due to rough weather and sudden waterlogging. The monsoon has now covered the country, but the pattern remains uneven, with some regions facing intense bursts of rain while others may see below-normal rainfall in the coming days. For commuters and travellers, the situation means checking road conditions, train schedules, flight status and local advisories before stepping out, especially in cities where heavy rain can quickly affect traffic, public transport and airport access. Farmers are also watching the monsoon closely because rainfall distribution will be important for sowing, crop health and water availability. As the rainy spell continues, residents have been advised to avoid flooded roads, stay away from unstable structures, follow IMD and local disaster-management alerts, and plan travel with extra caution until weather conditions improve.
