Noida Woman Dowry Death Case: Family Protests, Husband Still Absconding

Date:

The alleged dowry death of 33-year-old Noida woman Twisha Sharma has triggered outrage after her family staged a protest outside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s residence, demanding a fresh post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi and a fair investigation. Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, while her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, a former judge, of murder and dowry harassment. Police have formed a Special Investigation Team to probe allegations of harassment, assault, and possible destruction of evidence. The first autopsy at AIIMS Bhopal cited hanging as the cause of death but also noted simple injury marks on her body, prompting the family to refuse the body for last rites and demand a second examination. According to police, Twisha met the accused in 2024 and married him in December 2025. Her relatives claim she wanted to return to Noida and was in touch with them shortly before her death. An FIR has been registered under dowry death and harassment provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. While the former judge has received anticipatory bail, Samarth Singh remains absconding in police records, with his bail plea listed for hearing. The case has renewed concern over dowry-related violence and the need for swift, transparent investigations in such sensitive deaths.
