PepsiCo is giving Muscle Milk a major makeover as demand for protein-rich drinks continues to rise and competition grows across the beverage aisle. The company has reformulated the brand with nearly 50% fewer ingredients, removed artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors, and shifted its protein source to ultra-filtered milk for a cleaner taste and stronger nutrition profile. The standard Muscle Milk shake now contains 26 grams of protein, while the Pro line has been boosted to 42 grams in the 14-ounce bottle and 33 grams in the 11-ounce version. PepsiCo is also rolling out updated packaging and a broader marketing push aimed not only at athletes and bodybuilders, but also busy parents, everyday shoppers, and health-conscious consumers looking for simple protein options. The refreshed drinks began reaching U.S. shelves in April, with PepsiCo reporting encouraging early results, including a 30% sales lift at one unnamed retailer. The company also plans to update Muscle Milk powders, with new packaging expected later and a cleaner ingredient label planned for 2027.
