Marsch Explains Alphonso Davies' Absence from Canada Squad Amid Marriage Celebrations

Canada national team coach Jesse Marsch has clarified why left-back Alphonso Davies has been excluded from the squad for the upcoming international break. The Canadian Soccer Association previously stated that Davies would be unavailable for selection due to the celebration of his marriage and honeymoon.

Marsch confirmed the situation to reporters, explaining that Davies had wanted to be part of the camp, but got married shortly after the World Cup. The coach noted that a great deal had happened for the 25-year-old during the tournament, and that he is currently playing well, looking fit, and feeling good. Marsch said the coaching staff wants to ensure Davies is fully committed and ready when needed for important matches.

Davies, who has been Canada's captain since Copa America 2024, played only one match during the recent World Cup due to fitness problems. Since then, he has shown strong form, providing an assist in Bundesliga's season opener against Stuttgart and scoring a goal in the opening Champions League matchday against Bodø/Glimt.

Marsch has previously guided Canada to its first-ever appearance in the World Cup knockout stages. In the upcoming international window, Canada is scheduled to host Chile and Peru before playing a friendly against the United States.
