Leaked Benchmarks Suggest iPhone 18 Pro Models Deliver Major Performance Gains with A20 Pro Chip

Preliminary Geekbench 6.7 results have surfaced for Apple's newly unveiled iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both powered by the company's new A20 Pro chip. Two test devices, identified as iPhone 19,2 and iPhone 19,3, recorded single-core scores of 4,719 and 4,612, along with multi-core scores of 12,677 and 11,819, respectively.

Averaging these figures gives a single-core score of about 4,665 and a multi-core score of roughly 12,248. When compared to the average performance of the previous iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, this marks a 21 to 23 percent improvement in both single-core and multi-core performance. The gain is notable given that the A20 Pro is built using a more efficient 2nm manufacturing process.

The A20 Pro chip reportedly reaches CPU clock speeds of up to 4.93GHz, and both new iPhone models come equipped with 12GB of RAM. They will run iOS 27, which Apple plans to release on Monday, September 14.

For comparison, the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip has posted a Geekbench single-core score of 4,139 and a multi-core score of 13,285, putting it slightly ahead of the A20 Pro in multi-core performance but significantly behind in single-core results.

Some benchmark figures have also appeared online for Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, though these were either recorded using a different version of Geekbench or appear too low to be considered reliable.

All of these scores should be treated cautiously, as they come from prototype devices ahead of official releases. A clearer picture of how the A20 Pro compares to its Android rivals is expected once the Dimensity 9600 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 are officially launched later this month.
